I haven’t seen others talking about it but shot out to Maya from Maya and the Three for being such a great character: from the very beginning she is shown to be rowdy and tomboyish,but instead of becoming a completely different person by the end of the series she works on her flaws (such as impulsivity and lying) without changing these aspects of herself. She took her mothers advice to be more diplomatic without putting down her macuahuitl. She loves her friends,family and Zatz equally,without one outweighing the other. Her love for them motivated her to finish off Mictlan.She is silly,she is heroic,she is strong,she is loving.She is the sun.

Complete Monstober II Day 15: Mictlan

Here, we have perhaps the darkest villain in any media about the Day of the Dead! Here's his TV Tropes:

Lord Mictlan is the bloodthirsty god of war hellbent on destroying humanity. Initially wanting to kill a newborn Maya for being the product of his wife Lady Micte's infidelity, Mictlan only spares her so he may sacrifice her when she's older in order to gain immense power. Come present day, Mictlan personally slaughters the Teca army and sends several gods to bring Maya to be sacrificed, gleefully mutilating and killing those who fail or oppose him. Despite claiming to love Micte, come the final battle, Mictlan ignores his wife's pleas to abandon his plans to destroy humanity and furiously attacks her. When the heroes start to gain the upper hand against him and his army, Mictlan kills his loyal underlings and devours their hearts in order to strengthen himself.

Well, we know that in the universe of the book of life/ maya and the three all the dead in question who were good and are remembering go to the land of remembering. So imagine La Muerte's face when more than 100 teak warriors and other characters simply "came back to life" on some shelves

Most people have noticed the three gods of the lands of the dead from Book of Life in episode 8, but I noticed ANOTHER detail!

Xibalba doesn't have his two-headed snake staff yet.

I think that staff was created from the remains of Mictlan in some way- made from his golden blood or infused with his soul, perhaps, since we see through Micte and Camazotz that the gods' souls live on after they die. Mictlan has lost the power to act for himself.

BUT- the two-headed snake staff creates CONFLICT where Xibalba cannot directly. "Fix this for me, old friend."

So yeah, headcanon Xibalba's staff is Mictlan.

Parallels between Maya and the Three and El Tigre

As most of fans know,Jorge Gutierrez has confirmed that all of his works take place in the same universe.So it comes to no surprise when the audience notices recurring characters or motives,and El Tigre with Maya and the Three are no exception.Thanks to design sheets mainly found by @screenshoteltigre we can see what connects these two shows.

Giant-monster-skeleton-thingy

Let’s start with El Tigre concept art(above),which depicts a skeleton giant similar to the one Sartana summoned in the 18th episode(as it was commented by @fly-chicken under one of my posts;pic below).Although it’s not certain whenever the design is final or if they’re even the same monster,but considering that bones are mostly associated with Sartana of the Dead,it is safe to say that the creature is connected to her.Now,here’s the Maya and the Three concept art featuring a bone monster Mictlan summoned during the final battle against the main characters(mentioned by @lunaislandcitizen under one of my posts):

Looks familiar ?

This might hit at Santana’s relation to Mictlan,since she is the daughter of Xibalba and La Muerte.

Mictlan and …Mikla?

Here we have an antagonist that never made into El Tigre series due to it’s cancellation by Nickelodeon.Right off the bat we can notice the name similarity to the certain god of war,as well as Miklas ability to raise the “forgotten dead” with his skeleton hand,something that Mictlan did at the last fight against all kindoms.

Also,there is another concept art of Mikla where he seemingly transformed into giant serpent monster,something that Mictlan had also done:

Now,it is very possible that Jorge Gutierrez took certain characteristics from this character and applied them to Mictlan,taking into account the time period between El Tigre and Maya and the Three.But if not,then we might have another follower of Mictlan that decided to take revenge on the reincarnations of Maya and Zatz.
